Everything about how examination, certification, payment, and shipping actually work.
Every item's materials are scanned on an XRF analyzer and compared against the manufacturer's original material specifications — this applies across every category (bags, watches, jewelry, and Cartier sunglasses), no exceptions. Jewelry additionally undergoes chemical composition sample testing.
Beyond the material scan, our appraiser examines hardware, stitching, construction, and finishing by hand and eye, under a loupe and UV light.
It shouldn't happen. Our process is non-invasive — hand-and-eye inspection plus XRF material scanning — so nothing is disassembled or taken apart. The one exception is watches: if the movement needs to be inspected, the case back may be opened, done only when necessary and only by a trained watch specialist.
Our lead appraiser has 25 years of hands-on experience actually buying and selling designer brands — not a recently launched authentication startup. Two additional in-house appraisers support the process. Every item still goes through the same XRF material analysis regardless of who examines it.
The authenticity determination itself is permanent and transfers with the item if you sell it to someone else. The certified value listed on the certificate reflects our appraiser's assessment at the time of examination and is valid for 90 days from the issue date, since market values shift.
A digital certificate with a unique QR code is included and emailed to you — that part is free. A printed copy is available for an extra fee if you'd like one.
View a sample certificate → — this uses the same certificate and QR verification system already live on vetoben.com product listings.
We notify you by email, and — if needed — issue a Certificate of Non-Authenticity. The authentication fee is non-refundable either way, since the physical examination and material testing have already been performed regardless of outcome.
Yes. You can pick it up in person, or have it shipped back to you at your own cost.
If our certificate is ever proven wrong, VETOBEN refunds 100% of the authentication fee and pays an additional amount equal to the fee — 200% of the fee total. Claims must be backed by an official letter from the brand itself. We don't accept opinions from other authentication services as proof — especially photo-based online authentication, since a judgment made from photos is a guess, not a physical finding, and can't outweigh an in-person, hands-on, XRF-tested examination.
That's between you and your carrier's insurance — VETOBEN isn't responsible for damage or loss that happens in transit, which is why we recommend declaring your item's full value with the carrier.
Damage during our physical examination essentially doesn't happen, since our process is non-invasive. If it ever did, we only take responsibility for pre-existing condition issues (interior, mechanism, etc.) that you photographed and emailed to info@vetoben.com before we received the item, and that we confirmed receipt of. Photos you say you had beforehand but never sent us aren't accepted as evidence after the fact. Any photos or condition records you send us are kept securely on our servers.
While your item is with us for examination, it's covered by insurance — in the unlikely event of theft or loss, you're compensated.
Payment is due upfront. For walk-in visits, that's by card or cash at intake. For shipped items, we email you an online payment link once your item arrives and passes intake — we can't charge for a service before we've actually received the item.
No — we don't issue prepaid labels. Insured shipping is expensive enough on high-value items that it would often cost more than the authentication fee itself, so it's arranged and paid for by you, using any carrier you like.
Yes, domestic or international.
Don't ship in the original brand box or dust bag alone — it isn't rigid enough on its own. Don't remove serial tags, care cards, or original packaging inserts; leave the item exactly as it is. Don't declare a cash value lower than the item is worth — insurance only covers what's declared.
Return shipping is billed to you, using insured shipping at the value confirmed during examination.
Handbags, Chanel, Hermès, watches, and fine jewelry — plus Cartier sunglasses.
Lower-value categories like other sunglasses, shoes, and belts generally aren't worth the cost of authentication, so we don't accept them.
Get Certified is for items you own that aren't listed on vetoben.com — we verify authenticity and issue a certificate. Appraisal is for valuing items currently for sale on vetoben.com.
